Description
Esra Kizir Gökçen is an Istanbul-born painter and printmaker. She studied art at Istanbul Marmara University’s Fine Arts Faculty in 1971, and graphic design at Marmara University in 1993. In addition, Gokcen received a Pedagogical Certification from the Ataturk Education Faculty in 2000. She is particularly inspired by the detachment of modern urban life from nature, and she is influenced by eastern miniature art and calligraphy. Gokcen’s most recent works are primarily concerned with migration, globalisation, and spiritual awakening. She uses multiple layers to create depth, and her most recent technique is mostly acrylic and collage on canvas or paper, along with some linocut and intaglio in printmaking. She lives and works in London, and has been based at the Make Space Studios in Waterloo since 2017.
