Saliha Beyza Umurca was born in Istanbul and graduated from Istanbul University in 2012 with a degree in Ceramics, Glass and Tile. She also double majored in Traditional Turkish Arts and Ceramics and Glass Departments at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts. After completing a certificate programme in teacher training at the Pedagogical Formation Department of Marmara University, Umurca started taking the art of paper carving (katı’) lessons at the Academy of Fine Arts. She worked as a ceramics artist at ceramics workshops and taught special clay forming and glass painting lessons. Between 2019 and 2020, she worked as an assistant at the studio of the late, renowned Turkish artist Selma Gurbuz. She studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma as an Erasmus student in 2022. Umurca is currently studying for a master’s degree in Traditional Turkish Arts at the Fine Arts Institute of Marmara University. Her works have been shown in several exhibitions.
