Nagihan Seymour is a British Turkish artist from the UK, who specialises in Tezhip, the art of illumination and sacred geometry. Originally a materials engineer, she has been practising Tezhip since her university years. After her first solo exhibition at The Lightbox in 2017, she became a full-time artist, painting and also creating ceramics from her studio in Egham, Surrey. Seymour’s paintings are free hand drawn and painted symmetrical designs, consisting of naturalistic floral ornamentation or patterns with a simple expression, primarily created using 11 to 23 carat gold, with acrylic, gouache and watercolour paints on handmade and treated papers. She adds her own contemporary spin to the works she creates while adhering to the rules and traditions of this ancient art form. Seymour has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions and joined in art fairs across the UK. She has been a traditional arts instructor at Yunus Emre Institute London since 2018 and also taught at other institutions and museums such as Leighton House, David Parr Museum and The Lightbox.
