Izzet Keribar was born in Istanbul in 1936. He has been practising photography since he was a teenager. In 1980 he decided to start a second start in photography again. He has organized countless photo trips, thus creating one of the country’s most formidable stock image archives. He was awarded both A.FIAP and E.FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique) distinctions in 1985 and 1988. Lately, in 1991 French Government gave him a “Chevalier dans l’ordre dees Arts Académique “distinction and the same year he was awarded the 2d prize at the International Photography Competition of National Geographic and the 1st prize of the Jerusalem Post. In 1993, three new important prizes came from Ballantine’s (2d, 3d and an honourable mention). After that in 1997 he won the 1st prize in Fujifilm European Press Awards, in 2000 a merit prize from National Geographic and in 2001 Millenium Prize of FUJIFILM Press Awards in Copenhagen. His works have been published in internationally known magazines such as National Geographic, and GEO. In 1999 he published his first book “Terra Magica”. His seventh book “The Synagogues of Turkey” has been published recently. The artist is still practising as a professional freelancer. He gives lectures on photography and participates as a jury in photography competitions.
